Since opening in the Point Dume Plaza in 1989, Lily's has become a Malibu institution, famous for its unreal-delicious breakfast burritos and addictive hot sauce as for Lily Castro herself, long one of Malibu's most beloved faces. Only 18 when she opened her eponymous cafe, we sat down with Castro for the Sept/Oct issue to hear the inside story behind her incredible success, and Malibu's favorite dish. Now in its 11th year, Pepperdine's Waves of Flags memoriam has become a moving annual tradition in Malibu. Commemorating each life lost during the September 11th terrorist attacks, the display features 2,877 American flags and 90 various international flags. The installation is on display at Pepperdine University’s Alumni Park through 9/24.

Growing up in Honduras, José Ángel Manaiza Jr. always dreamt of coming to the U.S. In 2002 Manaiza Jr. got the chance when he gained admission to UCLA, eventually earning his degree in mathematics and opening up one of the most successful tuoring companies in town, Malibu A Plus Tutor, LLC. Now known as the "Tutor to the Stars", Manaiza Jr. has been teaching Malibu students a range of skills and subjects for years. His favorite thing about his adopted town?
