Fred Segal, an iconic retailer worldwide, is returning to Malibu in the spring of 2019.

“Returning?” readers may query. Alison Samek, CEO of Fred Segal, visited with Malibu Magazine and explained the store’s connections with Malibu.

“Fred was a founder of the Malibu Country Mart in 1975 and stayed there until the early 1980’s,” Samek said. “Fred Segal is delighted to return to Malibu where our store has a long history.” Fred Segal – the founder of the establishment – first graced Malibu’s landscape when he remodeled a run-down motel-turned-apartment-complex at 3835 Cross Creek Road and opened a Fred Segal boutique. In 1980, he developed another group of boutiques across the street at 3900 Cross Creek Road. Segal was instrumental in bringing fashion retail to Malibu.

The new Fred Segal store will have 4,000 square feet in Malibu Village in the space long occupied by the movie theater.

“The Malibu store will feature women’s apparel, men’s apparel, gifts such as books and candles and accessories,” Samek said.

Designers represented will include Mara Hoffman (gorgeously designed dresses and swimwear), Sea New York (easy-to-wear, but polished and chic, one-of-a-kind pieces), Lemaire (Coton et satin laqué d’acétate - Oui!), PS1 by Proenza Schouler (gorgeous leather satchels), Cotton Citizen (lovely, casual, easy-to-wear choices) and Shaina Mote (an LA-based designer who blends minimalism with lovely accents).

Think hip interfaces with classic at the three-way intersection of luxurious, lush and lavish. Think purchasing items of clothing that are timeless investment pieces. Think casual but chic. The store will also offer upscale jewelry and an exclusive sneaker shop. Carefully curated beauty items will add to the available beauty essentials in Malibu. Fred Segal aficionados will be delighted to hear that the store’s own brand also will be available, including modern, luxe essentials for men and women such as denim, t-shirts, leather jackets and cashmere sweaters. Maris Collective, which operates the women’s store at Fred Segal Sunset, Collective at Fred Segal the retailer’s flagship location, is curating the selection.

Fred Segal will add a vibrant vestiarie to Malibu – a perfect launch for spring. MM
