On June 15 - 17, Los Angeles Convention Centre was the host to the 2010 E3 Games Expo. The event itself was larger than life. Not only did more than 45,000 people attend, but the Expo required over 17, 000 man-hours to set up the fibre-optic cabling alone. More than $3 was spent for a concert that featured Rihanna, Eminem, and the Black Eyed Peas – it was a show that did not disappoint. For many attendees, the highlight of the 4-day gaming and tech binge was the launch of the Xbox Kinect. A groundbreaking new controller-free interface, Microsoft’s Kinect was designed with sights set on blowing the popular, family-friendly Wii out of the water. Scheduled for release this November, the Kinect employs what only seems like magic - living up to gamers’ futuristic dreams. With the wave of a hand, you can, pick music, play games, and more, as the mere movements of your body replace the role of the controller. Taking the Wii a leap or two further, these virtual games will involve body movements that nearly mirror the actual dance and sport being played. With voice and body recognition, Xbox Kinect is set to change the gaming industry, creating an increasingly wireless world.
