Surfer Poll Awards 2011

Just last week Surfer Magazine hosted the annual Surfer Poll Awards to celebrate the year’s standout performances in the world of surf. Opposed to rating surfers by their contest outcomes over the past season, online voting provided by fans determined the much-anticipated results. With over 1,000 legendary guests that attended the North Shore event, the nominees delivered humorous and inspirational speeches. Suspense lurked the room when it came down to whether Dane Reynolds or Kelly Slater would take the Number 1 prize, but Dane was a gent and settled for second again. With Slater already winning the ASP Tour for the eleventh time, it’s almost impossible to imagine him slipping from the top anytime soon. Although Reynolds didn’t leave with the biggest prize of the night; he also managed to snag “Best Digital Short” for his film “Lost Interest”. As the event wrapped, Peligroso tequila was the drink of choice for the Surfer Poll Awards providing guests liquid courage to head over to the dance floor at the after party hosted by Turtle Bay Resort.
