
Since she first stood on a bodyboard at the age of 10, Australian pro Stephanie Gilmore’s surfing career has only become more impressive. Entering her first world tour event at age 17, she has won myriad events, including wildcard wins at the 2005 Roxy Pro — Gold Coast as well as the 2006 Havaianas Beachley Classic. Her list of career victories includes wins at events including Rip Curl Pro, Roxy Pro and three world championship titles. With a Rip Curl sponsorship and three out of five wins already on the Women’s Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour, Gilmore’s year has not disappointed.
What’s the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever received (and from whom)?
Never underestimate yourself. I feel like it was given to me indirectly from my wonderful family and friends.
What do you consider your greatest professional success?
Winning world titles and realizing there is so much more out there to dream about and achieve. My destination was never to reach the top and get the trophy. Once it’s in your hands, it’s merely a part of the whole journey.
What do you consider your greatest personal failure?
Not being interested in continuing studies after high school.

Guitars, French desserts and cute boys.
