Once a resident of the Lumber Yard, Skidmore Contemporary Art - now situated in the Bergamot Station, Santa Monica - is home to a careful selection of captivating works. Many paintings are reminiscent of scenes and landscapes that seem unique to Malibu, as well as other interesting and pleasing works. Represented is a solid assembly of established artists with works that would make great additions to your home or business collection. The current exhibition, entitled Poprealism, features many of the gallery’s artists, including Tom McKinley, whose work (featured above) depicts architectural, lifelike interiors with the clean lines and natural backgrounds that evoke the feeling of a Malibu beach house.

I’m not falling for you
Oil on panel
36” x 36”
2010
Kelly Reemtsen is another artist represented by Skidmore Contemporary Art. With a bright, charming and offbeat vibe, her cropped depictions of women in vintage party attire often come accompanied with
unexpectedly edgy titles like I don’t need a key to your house (heart), and I’m not falling for you (depicted above).
Also currently on display is the ultra-realistic illustration of what looks to be none other than Zuma beach - a piece entitled, Hybrid by David Ashwell (below). Ashwell’s body of work includes a variety of views of California’s idyllic beaches.
