What do you consider your greatest professional success?
The obvious choice would be Chicago, but personally, for me, it’s Nine. Making that film was the most challenging and daring artistic undertaking and, consequently, the most rewarding.
What technology are you currently the most excited about?
Not much. I’m more concerned with the increasing lack of personal communication that I fear is disappearing.
When was the last time you were truly frightened and why?
A few weeks ago at The House of Horrors at Universal Studios. I went with my best friends and their kids, and it scared the living daylights out of me!
What did you want to grow up to be when you were a child?
A Broadway dancer. Without question.
What philanthropic/humanitarian cause do you most identify with and why?
Right now, anything that’s helping the Japanese with their recovery from this devastating and horrific tragedy.
Describe your perfect day?
A quiet day with nothing to do that’s spent with John DeLuca, my partner of 29 years, and Gillie, our beautiful Tibetan terrier.
If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be and why?
I try not to look back. I try, as much as I can, to look forward.
Do you believe in the notion of spreading democracy beyond our borders?
When the people are demanding it, absolutely.
What are the fundamental qualities you look for in a lover?
Patience, joy, kindness, humor. All of which John has in abundance.
How will you spend this evening?
Probably in front of the fireplace at our beautiful rented beach house in Malibu with John and our dog Gillie.
