Remember when MTV used to play music videos? Before Lance Bass was an astronaut and Brittney Spears had shaved her head. Those were the days. Anyways, Malibu Magazine is proud to present our online readers with the music video of the day; “Losing My Patience” by Shit Robot. I know the name “Shit Robot” implies that this musical act could be about R2D2 eating off of a street cart in Tijuana, however despite a less than flattering stage name, Irish musician/DJ Marcus Lambkin has a knack for producing quirky, dance friendly electro tunes.
Working as a DJ in NYC in ’02, Lambkin befriended producer, LCD Soundsystem front man, and co-founder of DFA Records; James Murphy. The two developed a DJ partnership, but Marcus moved to Germany in 2004 to produce his own music. Since then, Shit Robot has released several singles through DFA Records, and put out a debut album in 2010 titled From the Cradle to the Rave.
“Losing My Patience” is a track off of From the Cradle to the Rave. The song features guest vocals from Hot Chip Singer/ Guitarist Alexis Taylor. The video, directed by Fergal Brennan, highlights some colorful clips of a pixilated video screen, random geometric shapes, and Taylor’s vocals sewing everything together in the backdrop.
Shit Robot is scheduled to grace LA in August with a performance at the beloved Los Angeles State Historic Park for HARD 2011. And while we here at Malibu Magazine certainly don’t endorse the mass genocide of brain cells, taste, and decency known as “raves”, Shit Robot and the album From the Cradle to the Rave certainly get our nod of approval.
