Meek’s Crossing

Director Kelly Reichardt has taken to the Old West. Keeping with her modestly mannered style against sweeping American backdrops, Meek’s Cutoff follows a wagon of drifters on the Oregon Trail led by the wild Stephen Meek (Bruce Greenwood). When the travelers—including Michelle Williams, who starred in Reichardt’s previous film Wendy and Lucy—start losing faith in their hired guide, a passing native serves as their only alternative option. Whether he is to be trusted, however, is an issue all its own.
