Kazu Makino [Blonde Redhead Vocalist]

By: Editor | March 15, 2011 | Ten by Ten

Japanese singer Kazu Makino has been part of the New York underground music scene since … forever. For nearly two decades, she has enchanted fans with her band, Blonde Redhead, alongside Italian twins Simone and Amedeo Pace. The trio is a multicultural mix of alternative rock and dreamy sound waves, and since its chaotic debut with the Sonic Youth label, it has explored every nuance of indie rock, ranging from the melodic tones of its 2004 album Misery is a Butterfly to the electro-pop sounds of its latest works. The band has signed with the independant label 4AD for its new album, Penny Sparkle, released worldwide in September.
