Why do you think religion has caused so much turmoil in the world?
Religion offers people a security and answers a question that no one really has an answer to. So, when someone devotes their life to a belief in what they think is the answer to life after death, they need it to be true. Therefore, religion brings about a desperation, a need for a person’s belief to be the ultimate answer, and the individual feels the need to make others believe in their faith because a greater number [of followers] seems to secure its truth. Every group wants its belief to be the answer thus leading to conflict with all other religious groups and creating the divide.
Who is your favorite author and why?
John Steinbeck, East of Eden. Steinbeck understands human character so incredibly accurately, it’s frightening. His characters are brilliantly flawed, and there is an understanding the reader connects with. His attention to detail in what makes us human and what drives us is unsettling [in its] accuracy.

Laughing with friends and family in moments that you wish would stand still.
You can choose five people, dead or alive, to have dinner with. Who would they be and why?
Jon Stewart because I think he is sexy and smart; John Steinbeck so I could pick his brain and listen to him read from East of Eden; Hunter, my 11-year-old brother, because he is my happiness; Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett because they are two of the most talented actresses of our time, and I would love to learn from them. Plus, I think it would be a hell of a time to drink wine with them.
Define LOVE in as few words as possible.
Complex and forever unable to define with words.
What do you fear most?
I fear the loss of friends and family. Without them I would be lost.
What is your favorite quote?
I don’t think I’ve found it yet. Although I do have a quote from my favorite musician tattooed on my side that reads, “Go on and rain down on us ’cause I give up.” I know it’s not uplifting, but that quote resonates down to my core.

Most definitely.
