On November 23rd it was announced that Karl Lagerfeld, longtime creative director for Chanel, will serve as the global guest editor for Metro International publications in February. The Parisian newspaper, with audiences in 22 countries spanning Asia, America, and Europe, will be entitled “The World According to Karl”. The February 7 edition will spotlight artwork as well as commentary from the designer including the publication’s reportage of the Fashion Weeks in Milan, New York, London, and Paris.
In the weeks prior to the installment, Metro’s viewership is invited to participate in a Look Book contest with the winner gaining the coveted position of editorial assistant to Lagerfeld on February 6. As if that weren’t enough, the lucky winner will also receive an assortment of items from Mr. Lagerfeld’s many collections.
Prospective fashion journalists must submit a personal “fashion statement” to Metro’s website, as well as a link to Facebook wherein they may publicize their submission.
This incident does not mark Lagerfeld’s first foray into the sphere of journalism. He has formerly collaborated with highly-esteemed publications such as Vogue and Wallpaper, the latter in which he guest-edited alongside French designer Phillipe Starck. Earlier this year he also interviewed fellow fashion legendary Carine Roitfeld for Interview magazine.
