Responsible for the birth of stars like Justin Bieber, Esmée Denters and Bo Burnham, YouTube, most famous for its large portion of homemade videos, has dramatically expanded its online movie rental database. After striking a deal with major Hollywood studios including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures, YouTube will be making 3,000 major movie titles available for rent in the US. Priced competitively to other leading VoD sites such as Netflix between 99¢ and $3.99, recent Oscar winners including The King’s Speech and Inception, as well as old favourites like Scarface, Ghostbusters and Caddyshack, will be available for rent.
