Why do you think religion has caused so much turmoil in the world?
The very concept of believing that “my way is the right way, your way is the wrong way;” “my god is the right god, your god is the wrong god” promotes intolerance. The organized religion that supported Proposition 8 here in California is a classic example.

Who is your favorite author and why?
I go through phases, but I’ve never been disappointed in Hemingway. The words he puts together to describe something are mind-expanding.

What is the single most regrettable decision you have ever made?
That I didn’t know enough to make Doctor No. 1 give me the necessary test (an endometrial biopsy), that after a two-year, eight-doctor odyssey, I was ultimately diagnosed with uterine cancer.

What is your definition of happiness?
Cruising up PCH on the back of the Ducati with my boyfriend.

You can choose five people, dead or alive, to have dinner with. Who would they be and why?
I like the idea of dead people, because them I can’t get to. So, Thomas Jefferson, John Lennon, I wouldn’t mind meeting Jesus, and I was thinking Gandhi, but who knows if I would even understand what he was saying. So, how about the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., and what would a list of deadheads be without Jerry Garcia?

Love is love.

What do you fear most?
That humans will prove to be the virus of this planet, and destroy it and themselves as viruses always do.

Do you think there is life on other planets?
Definitely. Why would anyone be so presumptuous to think that this is all there is? Plus, my dog Esther actually is visiting from another planet and observing our culture to report back. And I’m like Superman’s mom!

What do you consider America’s biggest threat?
Ignorance!
