Givenchy
Though Frida Kahlo was reported to be the inspiration behind Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy couture designs, it may be more of a divine image that comes to mind on first glance. White, beige and gold, his angelic gowns and elaborate ornamentation appeared to be have arrived straight from the heavens. One jacket even featured the wings of an angel, emerging from a skull. Floor-sweeping, cascading lace made these pieces opulent as can be. The skeletal structure emphasized by his boned bodices was perhaps the most appealing and distinctive aspect of collection.

In keeping with the theatrical nature of a couture show, lace, feathers, silk chiffon bows, and even a cage were incorporated into the baby-doll outfits. Careful in not appearing too girlish, however, the Valentino show was on point in showing it’s “dark side” through black sheath underpinnings and accents.
