From his immediately successful partnership with director Joel Schumacher in the early ’90s, producer and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman is the man behind some of the most lucrative blockbusters of the past 15 years. From his franchise of Dan Brown adaptations The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons to his most recent undertaking of the dauntingly hefty Dark Tower series from horror honcho Stephen King, Goldsman’s prolific career in Hollywood has made him a name to be reckoned with in the cutthroat world of filmmaking. Goldsman’s imaginative childhood triggered his earnest interest in the arts, and since then, he has proved himself deft at producing high-quality films among many genres, such as the 2007 sci-fi adaptation of I Am Legend with Will Smith and heavy drama with the biopic Cinderella Man starring Russell Crowe. Goldsman’s movies continuously breathe fresh life into L.A.’s ever-adaptive industry.

The day man walked on the moon — because I remember it, and it was the only time the paper in New York went color before the Mets won the World Series.

Surviving.
