When Norma Jeane Dougherty, posed for her first photo shoot in 1946 with photographer Joseph Jasgur, no one could predict that the copyrights of the images would be such a possession to be sold in an auction nearly 50 years after her death. Now known to the world as one of worlds’ most celebrated sex icons, Marilyn Monroe images capture timeless beauty and the essence of a true Hollywood starlet. Just last week in Beverly Hills, the infamous Idols & Icons auction took place and the series were sold for a cool $350,000 making this purchase the highlight of the event. Not only were the copyrights auctioned off, but the photos also came with negatives and the rare right to sell and distribute them.
As the Idols & Icons bidding continued, Lady Gaga and John Lennon items were also a talk of the event. The structured dress Gaga wore for the cover of Madame Figaro magazine of May this year was predicted to sell anywhere between $10,000 to $20,000 but sold for $31,250 and the prop gun used in her video “Born This Way” went for $7,680. Later, the caricature that John Lennon drew of himself and Yoko Olo in 1969 went for $90,000.
